The UT administration will make the open air theatre functional on the eve of Nek Chand's birth anniversary on Friday, December 15. Nek Chand passed away two years back in June 2015.

In the theatre, a screen will be installed on which a 20-minute movie on Nek Chand’s life and his creation will be shown every hour.

On this occasion cultural functions and competitions for students will be held and singer Anoop Jalota will perform at the Rock Garden from 4.30 pm onwards.

UT home secretary Anurag Aggarwal said, “The theatre was non-functional for the past two decades. As far as automated entry and exit is concerned, there were lots of complaints about the entry. Also, with this we will come to know the exact number of visitors.”

Adding on he said that we will also renovate the three-bedroom guesthouse in the Rock Garden which remained closed for 30 years. We will be putting up new furniture there.

Many of the tourists who visit Rock Garden are foreigners. It generates an income of Rs one lakh per day, making it one of the most profitable tourist sightseeing sites in the region. The garden was officially opened on January 24, 1976 and till date it has seen development in three phases, with interlinked courtyards.
