Khaira urges CM to make Justice Gill Commission a permanent feature

News, Punjab

Chandigarh: Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira urged Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to make the Justice (retd) Mehtab Singh Gill Commission a permanent feature in Punjab, particularly in view of unending complaints of political witch hunt by all opposition parties.

Khaira said that such a commission can act as a deterrent to prevent cases being filed by the police under political vendetta, now by Minister’s and MLA’s of the ruling Congress party. He appreciated the impartial work being carried out by Justice Mehtab Singh Gill, by taking to task those police officers who registered false cases against innocent people under political pressure, during the last 10 years of SAD-BJP misrule.

As reported, more than 4,000 complaints of political vendetta have reached the Gill Commission, of which 70 percent of those processed till now have been found to be false. Justice Gill has recommended criminal action against many police officers u/s 182 of the IPC for falsely framing people, besides dismissal of certain police officers u/s 311 of the IPC.

Thousands of false criminal cases were slapped against the political opponents of the Akali leaders, in order to intimidate them and gag their voice, said Khaira. Khaira alleged he himself was a victim of the ire of Badal family who slapped six false cases against him, as soon as he became a vociferous MLA.

None of the six false cases stood the scrutiny of law and all the false FIR’s against him were quashed by the High Court of Punjab and Haryana High Court, he said while drawing parallel with the case of LIP leaders Bains brothers, who were allegedly detained in false cases by the Badal family through their police agents.
