Chandigarh: Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) activists on Monday stopped Punjab vehicles from entering Haryana at the Shambhu barrier on the Ambala-Rajpura border to protest against the Punjab government’s “stubborn stand” on the issue of Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) waters.

Heavy police force has been deployed at the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu barrier in view of the INLD call to stop vehicles from Punjab. Punjab has deployed nearly 1,500 cops in Patiala and Bathinda zones sharing border with Haryana.

Anticipating disruption in movement of traffic on national and state highways, the police have also announced traffic diversions on many routes in both the states.

Haryana’s main opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is holding protests over the SYL canal issue at many points, including the Lalru-Chandigarh Road, Ambala-Shambhu border, Narwana- Dhanauri, Ratia-Budlahada Road (Jakhal point) in Fathehabad district and Dabwali on Haryana-Punjab border.
