Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the existing contractors on implementing new mining policy. The vacation bench of Justice Mahesh Grover and Justice Fateh Deep Singh has issued a notice for 2 August while hearing the writ petitions filed by the existing mining contractors of Punjab.
The bench was told that in the new policy, the public interest has been ignored, so that the cost of sand trucks will be increased from 12-14 thousand rupees to about three lakh rupees.
The existing contractors challenged the government’s decision to impose a new mining policy on them. The contractors also challenged the letters which issued them, through which the contractors were forced to deposit the amount or submit contracts as per the new policy. The bench has also stayed on these letters.
