Moga: Cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar got a heroes’ welcome at her hometown Moga from local administrators and politicians after the 28-year-old arrived on Sunday. The middle-order batswoman grabbed headlines in the recently held Women’s World Cup in England, due to her smashing 115-knock of 171 runs against Australia in the semifinals which took India in the finals.
Although, the Mithali Raj-led Indian team lost to England in the finals but the team caught attention of the country due to their fighting spirit. Harman, who was vice-captain of the team hit 51 runs in the final but could not steer india to title win as they fell 9 runs short of the target.
Harman touched down the Amritsar airport at noon on Sunday where his family members and friends had come to receive her. A road show took place from Landeke village to Moga city where Harman was perched on a jeep and flanked by his father Harmander Singh Bhullar and others.
Moga MLA Harjot Kamal, Baghapurana MLA Darshan Singh Brar and Deputy Commissioner Dilraj Singh also gave a rousing welcome to the cricketer. The road show started from Landeke, will be ended at her village Duneke late evening.
Harman led India to Asia cup win in 2016 and also played a fine innings in the World Cup qualifiers final earlier this year, but never received such welcome back home. She is touted to be next India captain.
