Fog will continue to engulf the city for the next three-four days, and
the temperature will further dip by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, according to
the weather forecast.
Maximum temperature on Thursday remained at 18.2 degrees, four notches
below normal; and the minimum temperature was at 12.6 degree Celsius,
which was six above normal.
Three flights were cancelled and five delayed due to the dense fog. Air India’s Chandigarh-Delhi flight at 7.25 am could not operate
because the visibility did not allow the aircraft to land at 6.55 am.
Then SpiceJet’s Delhi flight at 8.40 am got cancelled, and it’s been
called off for Saturday too in apprehension of fog.
Air India’s Mumbai flight was cancelled at 3.20 pm because the
aircraft was stuck with a Chandigarh-Pune flight that departed three
hours late in the morning and could not come back on time for Mumbai
passengers. Air India’s Chandigarh-Pune flight was operated at 12.30 pm instead of
9.15 am.
The visibility only improved after 11.30 am that allowed the airport to operate many of the scheduled flights.
As a result of the fog, trains ran late too. Of the 56 that arrive in Chandigarh, 13 arrived late on Thursday.
