Efforts being made to knock out drug abuse: Mohindra

Amritsar: Punjab Health Minister Brahm Mohindra today said the Congress government was making concerted efforts to end the menace of drug abuse and crackdown on the supply chain in the state.

He speaking at a seminar organised by the Punjab State Children Welfare Commission at the Government Medical College here. The minister said that the state government has also formed a Special Task Force for the purpose.

It is a matter of great concern that the negative trend of drug use among the children is on the rise. To check this, parents must be aware of the psychological, physical and social problems their children, he said.

The Congress government has earmarked Rs 174 crore for the prevention of cancer and for de-addiction, Mohinder said.

He said that 57 new drug de-addiction centers are being opened in Punjab on the PGI model.
