Chandigarh: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Shilpy Pattar Dutt, sub-divisional magistrate (east), Chandigarh, her husband Dhiraj and a middleman GS Brar in graft case.

The trio were arrested on Sunday morning after a local team of CBI raided the SDM’s house on Saturday night and allegedly caught Shilpy red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

As per the CBI, Dhiraj had hidden the graft money (Rs 50,000) in his garments when the sleuths came in. This money was recovered from his garments during the search. The CBI also recovered Rs 25,000 from the middleman Brar. The trio will be produced before the court on Sunday post noon.

Sources said a property dealer had approached the CBI alleging that the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer, on deputation in the UT, had demanded Rs 5 lakh for de-sealing his showroom in Sector 26 whose jurisdiction falls under the officer.

After negotiations, the deal was struck at Rs 2 lakh, of which Rs 50,000 was to be paid on Saturday. Sources said that the officer had ordered sealing of the showroom last week over some violations She had come on deputation in June and has additional charge as joint commissioner in the municipal corporation besides being the land acquisition officer.
