AAP announces ex-Army man as candidate for Gurdaspur bypoll

News, Punjab

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday announced Maj Gen (Retd) Suresh Khajuriya as its candidate for the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll. Khajuriya, who hails from Bungal village in Pathankot, has served two tenures as Brigade and Division Commander in Punjab during his 40 years of service.

While announcing this, Opposition leader Sukhpal Khaira said while the Congress and the BJP are planning to drop parachute candidates from Mumbai and Abohar, the party has fielded a local candidate with a clean image in the bypoll.

He said that if gets elected, Gen Khajuriya will raise the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue in Parliament.   Slamming Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for his failure to deliver promises made to the public during the assembly polls,

Khaira said the situation has not changed during his regime as farmers are still committing suicide and unemployed youth are also ending their lives.
