Weather Update Today: Most parts of Punjab witness rainfall

Punjab Weather Rainfall News Update Today: Although Punjab has been issued an orange alert, cold day conditions and dense fog continue to prevail across the state, with most of the areas reporting rainfall as well. Punjab on Wednesday registered a slight rise of 3 Degrees Celsius. India Meteorological Department stated that it was appreciably above normal by 3.9 Degrees Celsius in the state. 

In the meanwhile, the lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded at Bathinda where the mercury level was recorded at 7.0 degrees Celsius. 

According to information, Chandigarh recorded 10.6 degrees Celsius, while Chandigarh (Airport) recorded 10.1 degrees Celsius, Amritsar recorded 11.5, Ludhiana 11.9, Patiala 9.8, Pathankot 12.5, Bathinda 7.0, Faridkot 9.5, Gurdaspur 10.0, Ballowal (SBS Nagar) 11.0, Barnala 9.7, Faridkot (AWS) 11.6, Nurmahal, Jalandhar 11.0, Samrala 12.8, Budh Singh Wala (Moga) 8.6, and Ropar recorded 11.1.
  
Earlier, the India Meteorological Department on Wednesday stated, "The Western Disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies at 5.8 km above mean sea level now runs roughly along Long. 62°E to the north of Lat. 30°N. Jet Stream Winds of the order up to 140 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level are prevailing over North
India. A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from 3rd February 2024."

It also stated that "The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and neighborhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level has become less marked. The cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab and Haryana extending up to 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked."

Similarly, the IMD issued an orange alert in the state for January 31 predicting thunderstorms and lighting with hail and gusty wind (speed 30-40kmph) at most isolated places.
