Punjab CM Mann Orders Suspension of DIG Harcharan Bhullar Accused of Bribery; Pledges Top Priority to Eradicating Corruption

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered the suspension of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Ropar Range) Harcharan Singh Bhullar over allegations of bribery, reaffirming his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.

The Chief Minister made the announcement in a post on X on Tuesday, stating that every corrupt individual, regardless of their position, will face the law.

“No individual involved in corruption, regardless of their rank or position, will receive any protection. The Aam Aadmi Party will continue its fight against all forms of bribery,” Mann said in his post.

According to a report by The Indian Express, which cited CM Mann, the DIG would be deemed suspended with effect from October 16, 2025.

Bhullar was arrested on October 16 in connection with a bribery case.

CM Mann emphasized that no officer or politician, regardless of their position or influence, will be spared if found involved in corruption. He added that corrupt practices erode public trust, weaken institutions, and hinder national progress, The Economic Times reported.

This was the Chief Minister’s first statement following Bhullar’s arrest.

“The AAP government has accorded top priority to eradicating this menace, and today’s action once again sends a clear message that there will be no pick and choose in the fight against corruption,” Mann said in a statement.

He added that this action reflects the Punjab government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service delivery.

“A corruption-free governance lies at the core of the state government’s ethos, which has been consistently demonstrated through its actions over the past four years,” Mann stated.

The Chief Minister further said that since assuming office in 2022, the AAP government has launched a sustained crusade against corruption, reaffirming its dedication to clean and transparent governance in Punjab.

He reiterated that any involvement in corrupt activities will not be tolerated and that no leniency will be shown to those indulging in such acts.

According to the ET report, Bhullar, along with another person, was arrested in connection with a case involving a bribe of Rs 8 lakh.

He was taken into custody from his Mohali office, following a complaint by a scrap dealer from Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib, who accused Bhullar of demanding recurring monthly payments to “settle” a 2023 FIR against him.

During searches at Bhullar’s residence, the CBI seized Rs 7.50 crore in cash, 2.50 kg of gold jewellery, and several other items, the report added.

Bhullar was later sent to judicial custody by a CBI court.

He was appointed as DIG (Ropar Range) in November 2024. The Ropar Range comprises Mohali, Rupnagar, and Fatehgarh Sahib districts.
