BATHINDA: The Second Edition of 'Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan', was unveiled on August 29 at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium in a distinguished inaugural ceremony graced by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The illustrious sports event, aimed at rejuvenating the state's sporting spirit, commenced with an impactful march past featuring sports enthusiasts from diverse districts. In his inaugural address, CM Mann expressed optimism that the event would serve as a catalyst in reviving Punjab's glory in the field of sports.

As Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated the highly anticipated sports extravaganza, he commended the efforts to channelize the energy of the youth towards constructive fields. The torch, emblematic of the games' spirit, was relayed through 23 districts, engaging several young participants in its journey across the state. Mann acknowledged the overwhelming response the torch received, symbolizing unity and enthusiasm among the people.

Drawing a parallel between sports and agricultural endeavors, Chief Minister Mann remarked that much like the cultivation process, these games sowed seeds for a promising future. He critically addressed the historical neglect of sports development by previous administrations, asserting that the current government is utilizing resources for the welfare of all sections of society.

Highlighting the accomplishments of the Indian hockey team in the recently concluded international event, CM Mann announced forthcoming job opportunities for the accomplished athletes. He underlined his commitment to nurture these players, aiming for gold medals in the upcoming Asian Games. Addressing the need for sports to be managed by the right hands, CM Mann lamented the controversies that have plagued the sports domain, affirming that Punjab will steer clear of such issues.

Reflecting on the resounding success of the inaugural season, 'Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan,' CM Mann celebrated the participation of over three lakh players across various age groups, who vied for glory in 30 competitions. He stressed the importance of the games as a platform for talent identification and growth. This year, the event features 35 competitions across eight age groups, with novel inclusions such as rugby, cycling, horse riding, wushu, and shooting volleyball.

Notably, The Chief Minister unveiled a comprehensive sports policy designed to promote an active lifestyle, motivate children to engage in sports, and restore Punjab's sporting prestige. Among its initiatives, the policy calls for the establishment of playgrounds, sports nurseries, and district sports complexes to facilitate skill development.
