Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Reveals Rejection of Punjab's Tableaux Designs, Accuses Centre of Bias and Neglect

Republic Day 2024 Parade Latest News: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

Republic Day 2024 Parade Latest News: In a significant press conference held today, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed deep disappointment as Punjab finds itself excluded from the tableaus to be showcased during the Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2024. CM Mann accused the central government of pushing Punjab aside during what he referred to as the "days of Lasani sacrifices."

CM Mann revealed that the Punjab government had diligently submitted three tableau designs several months ago, covering the historical sacrifices and martyrdom of Punjab, the empowerment of women in the state (Mai Bhago Istri Shakti Scheme), and the rich cultural heritage of Punjab. Unfortunately, all three designs were rejected by the Center, a decision that CM Mann called into question.

Addressing the issue, the Chief Minister stated, "We received the letter today, inquiring about Punjab's participation in the January 26 parade. We had written to the central government on August 4, 2023, expressing our intent to feature a tableau for the next three years. Regrettably, our request was met with rejection, and this is a blatant disregard for Punjab's contributions to the freedom struggle."

The Chief Minister criticized the central government for allegedly favoring BJP-ruled states, claiming that more than 90% of their tableau submissions received approval. He emphasized that the freedom of the country was achieved with the sacrifices of Punjabis, and it was disheartening to witness their contributions being sidelined.

Taking a swipe at the BJP, CM Mann accused its members of prioritizing political propaganda over the recognition of national heroes like Bhagat Singh and Rajguru. He further pointed out the discontinuation of funds for the Rural Development Fund (RDF), National Health Mission (NHM), and pilgrimage trains, asserting that such decisions were adversely affecting the state.

The Chief Minister asserted, "We will fight this battle with our three crore people, and no attempts to diminish our sacrifices will succeed."
