Madhopur Floodgates Collapses, Pathankot Punjab Latest News: One of the floodgates of Madhopur collapsed on Wednesday, creating havoc in the area. Nearly 50 people are trapped, and one employee is reported missing following the incident, the encounter news reported, citing officials. 

According to the report, rescue operations are currently underway with helicopters pressed into service. 
The employee who is reported missing had gone to repair a malfunctioning gate when the floodgate collapsed.

Following the collapse, water from the dam is gushing directly into the Ravi River, causing flood-like situation in nearby villages.

The incident comes after relentless rainfall in Punjab and nearby mountain states. Flood water and water released from dams have inundated over 150 villages in seven districts in the state. 

Schools are closed till August 30 across Punjab, and leaves of all officials have been cancelled in flood-hit areas.
