Vigilance nabs ASI for taking bribe

State Vigilance Bureau, today nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) posted at Anaj Mandi Police station Patiala red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 14,000. In this case vigilance have booked his accomplice two police officials who have to share the bribed amount. Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said ASI Gurmeet Singh (No 2052/Patiala/LR) was nabbed red handed on the complaint of Tarnjeet Singh of Abchal Nagar Patial city.

The complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused ASI was demanding Rs 30,000 by threatening to lodge a false liquor case against him but the deal was struck at Rs. 20,000. After verifying his information, the vigilance team laid a trap and the accused ASI was arrested on the spot taking bribe of Rs. 14,000 as a first installment from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

He informed that during investigation it has came to light that the bribed amount was to be shared by two more police officials of the same police station namely head constable Harjinder Singh (No. 1937/Patiala) and class-IV employee, PSO with SHO, Ashok Kumar. He added that a case under sections 7, 13 (1)d, 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and 384, 120B of IPC has been registered against all the three accused at VB police station Patiala and further investigations were under progress.
