Boxer Kaur Singh and Sports Minister Meet Hayer

SANGRUR: International boxer Subedar Kaur Singh, a resident of Khanal village of Sangrur district, passed away at the age of 74. Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has expressed grief over the passing away of the great boxer on Social Media.

Meet Hayer tweeted (In Punjabi) (Roughly Translated), "Received the sad news of the passing away of the country's great boxer Kaur Singh Ji. With his departure, the sports industry has suffered a huge loss. Kaur Singh won the gold medal in the 1982 Asian Games."

The Minister added (In Punjabi) (Roughly Translated), "The State Government led by our honorable Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has included the biography of this distinguished boxer, who was honored with the Padma Shri and Arjuna awards in the school syllabus. I bow to this great boxer. May God rest the departed soul in his feet and give strength to the family and sports lovers." 

Notably, Kaur Singh had joined the army in 1970 and while serving the country, a desire arose in him to achieve a renowned position in the field of boxing. To fulfill this hobby, Colonel Baljit Singh Johal contributed a lot and encouraged him to set up a training camp. From where he acquired proficiency by taking boxing training. With his hard work and dedication, he won the gold medal for the first time at Sinkdarabad while playing National and then he was selected for the India Cup. He also clinched many medals in international championships for the country.
