Punjab Government Sanctions New Excise Policy to Increase Revenue latest news: In the recent cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Council of Ministers has approved the Excise Policy for 2025-26. The policy has a target to generate more revenue from excise duties by a huge ₹800 crore compared to last year, and the new target for the current fiscal year has been fixed at ₹11,020 crore, according to Finance Minister Harpal Cheema.
Principal highlights of the revised policy are back to the 2022 method of distributing liquor vends using e-tenders. An open quota for Indian Made Foreign Liquor will also remain, as the quota of country-made liquor will increase by three percent. The state government has also cleared the way to open new bottling plants and 207 groups (licensing units) for auction.
Among other news from the cabinet meeting, changes to the issuance of birth and death certificates now require doctors to indicate the date and cause of death. Additionally, the Report of the NRI Commission was laid before the Council of Ministers, marking continued attempts to address the issues of Non-Resident Indians.
