Nowcast: IMD issues orange alert in SAS Nagar as thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds continue

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in SAS Nagar, Punjab, warning of moderate rainfall under the nowcast, valid till 7:30 pm this evening.

The district is currently experiencing moderate thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds of 41–61 km per hour in gusts, along with hail in some parts of the district. Strong rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder has been continuously affecting Mohali over the past few hours.

As per the IMD forecast, thunderstorms, lightning, squalls along with hailstorms, and strong surface winds are likely to continue tonight in several areas of the district.

In view of the warnings issued by the IMD, people are urged to remain cautious and step out only when necessary, as these conditions pose serious threats to the safety of life. There is a risk of lightning strikes, exposure to cold due to strong winds and rain, hailstorms, and strong winds that may uproot or snap trees and electricity poles.
