Mohali's Sector-68 witnesses a rise in daylight robberies targeting women and the elderly

Robbery

CHANDIGARH: Mohali recently saw another distressing incident involving an attempted chain snatching in broad daylight, highlighting a worrying trend where robbers specifically target women and the elderly. This marks the second such incident in the last 13 days within Sector-68.

During this latest episode, the robbers targeted a mother and daughter duo riding on an Activa. Despite their attempt to snatch the chain, the woman managed to grasp it, causing the chain to break and fall on the ground.

In the ensuing struggle, the Activa lost balance, causing the two women to fall and sustain serious injuries. They were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they received necessary medical attention and were later discharged after receiving first aid.

One of the victims, Manika, narrated the incident, mentioning that she resides in Pancham Society. Her daughter attends the Palak Chitkara Institute, and every day, she picks her up from the MC office, commuting on their Activa. On the fateful day, around 4:30 pm, as they were returning home from the institute, two youths on a Pulsar motorcycle started chasing them. When they reached outside the Pancham Society, one of the riders attempted to snatch the gold chain. However, the woman managed to hold on, causing the chain to break and fall. The assailant, wearing a helmet, quickly fled the scene on the Pulsar.

Unfortunately, due to the sudden struggle, the Activa became difficult to control, resulting in both the mother and daughter falling and suffering injuries. A concerned neighbor recognized them and, with the help of passers-by, ensured they were taken home and subsequently rushed to the hospital. The entire incident was captured by a nearby CCTV camera, and the police have been notified.

This incident closely follows a similar one on September 12, where a 65-year-old woman, Renu Sharma, became a victim of a robber. Such occurrences are causing increasing concern within the community, necessitating heightened vigilance and immediate action to ensure the safety of residents.
