Punjab CM Mann Announces World-Class University in Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Name at Anandpur Sahib
Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann announced a major educational and cultural initiative in Anandpur Sahib. He declared that a world-class university is to be built in the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur. According to The Tribune, during the concluding ceremony of a Sarv Dharam Sammelan (interfaith gathering) that was held as part of the state’s week-long commemoration of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru, he made this announcement.
CM said that the university will be a global hub of excellence for education and research. The special focus will be on interfaith dialogue and the Guru’s timeless message of human rights, sacrifice and peace. He described it as a tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur, who gave his life protecting the freedom of faith.
This initiative is part of a broader vision to turn Anandpur Sahib into both a spiritual capital and a hub of academic learning. Mann highlighted that this is not just a symbolic gesture but a long-term investment in infrastructure, faith, and education.
Spiritual leaders from various religions participated in the Sarv Dharam Sammelan. They reflected on the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur for religious freedom. Arvind Kejriwal, national convenor of AAP, spoke at the event and praised the Guru’s sacrifice as a timeless example of humanity and justice.
Beyond the university, the Punjab government has announced several other projects to honour the Guru’s legacy. These projects include a heritage street in Anandpur Sahib, which will highlight its spiritual and cultural heritage. Mann also pledged free e-rickshaw and minibus services for pilgrims visiting gurdwaras in Anandpur Sahib, Amritsar, and Talwandi Sabo — fully funded by the government.
This set of initiatives reflects the government’s resolve to preserve and promote Sikh history while weaving in education, peace, and unity — ensuring that the spirit of Guru Tegh Bahadur continues to inspire future generations.
