Chandigarh: In a landmark move to protect Punjab’s youth and curb cross-border drug smuggling, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, along with AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, flagged off the Baaj Akh Anti-Drone System (ADS), making Punjab the first state in India to deploy such advanced technology at the international border.

The initiative marks a new chapter in CM Mann’s “War Against Drugs” (Yudh Nasheyan Virudh), aimed at intercepting drones used to smuggle heroin, weapons, and ammunition from across the Pakistan border. Punjab shares a 553-km stretch with Pakistan—one of the most vulnerable zones for narcotics trafficking.

A total of nine ADS units are being installed at high drone-activity points, with ₹51.4 crore allocated to the project. The system is equipped with automated alerts, precision tracking, and neutralization capabilities, enabling Punjab Police to act as a “Second Line of Defense” alongside the BSF.

In 2024 alone, security forces seized 283 smuggling drones; in 2025 so far, 137 drones have already been intercepted. The CM emphasized that this technology, combined with strict enforcement and a zero-tolerance policy, will deliver a decisive blow to drug cartels.

The campaign also extends to education: a special anti-drug syllabus has been introduced in 3,658 government schools, covering 8 lakh students from classes 9 to 12. This will be complemented by awareness drives involving scientists and experts.
CM Mann asserted that past political complicity allowed the drug menace to grow unchecked, but his government’s tough, technology-driven crackdown has put high-profile offenders behind bars and is setting a new standard for anti-drug enforcement in India.
