Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests SAD Leader Bikram Singh Majithia in Disproportionate Assets Case

SAD Leader Bikram Singh Majithia latest news: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Wednesday, June 25 arrested Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former state minister Bikram Singh Majithia in Amritsar following the registration of a fresh case against him for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, Hindustan Times reported. He is expected to be produced before the Amritsar district court around 3 PM today.

To maintain law and order, Punjab Police personnel have been deployed and barricades set up outside Majithia’s residence.

While being taken away from his house following a raid by the Vigilance Department, Majithia said in a video shared on his social media handle:
“...Look at how many officers are here to take me away. I don't know if something was planted in my house... but look at the restlessness... A few people were locked up in a room and then the police brought me here…”

According to HT, simultaneous raids were carried out at 25 properties, including Majithia’s Amritsar residence, citing a senior VB official. The official stated that an FIR has been registered and a formal statement will be issued shortly.

Majithia was out on bail in a high-profile drug trafficking case registered under Sections 25, 27A, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He has been accused of providing logistical and financial support to key figures in the Punjab drug racket, including Jagdish Bhola, Maninder Singh Aulakh, and Jagjit Singh Chahal.

In February 2022, Majithia was arrested and spent several months in judicial custody before being granted regular bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in August 2022. The Supreme Court of India, while upholding his bail in April 2025, barred him from influencing witnesses or making public statements about the case. He was last questioned in March 2025 by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Reacting to Wednesday's raid, Majithia posted on X, “A long time ago, I had already stated that when the Bhagwant Mann government couldn’t find anything against me in the false drug case, they would try to frame me in another fabricated case. Today, a team led by the SSP of Vigilance conducted a raid on me. Bhagwant Mann ji, understand this clearly — no matter how many cases you file against me, I will neither be afraid nor will your government be able to suppress my voice. I have always spoken about the issues of Punjab, and I will continue to do so. I have complete faith in the Almighty and Guru Sahib. In the end, truth will prevail.”

His wife, Ganieve Kaur, a SAD MLA from Majitha, said, “Thirty people forcibly barged into our house by pushing the doors this morning. This is our private residence. Nobody can do this.”

On the today’s raids at the residence of Bikram Singh Majithia, Shiromani, Punjab Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal stated that ‘this drug issue started during the time of the Akali Dal and the BJP government’.

Speaking to ANI, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal stated, “"Today, our police and vigilance raided nine places in Amritsar and 25 places in Punjab, including Bikram Singh Majithia. This drug issue started during the time of the Akali Dal and the BJP government. During their government, many drug smugglers were caught who gave statements against Bikram Singh Majithia, but they did not take any action. When Captain Amarinder Singh came, he said he would put the drug smugglers behind bars, but nothing happened. We had promised the people of Punjab that we would take action against drug smugglers. No matter who the person is, action will be taken. So we are taking action..."
