As per the announcement of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president S. Sukhbir Singh Badal to felicitate the renowned wrestler and two-time gold medal winner at the Commonwealth Games, S. Harpreet Singh Sandhu, the Party handed over the cheque of Rs 2 Lacs to him today at Party Head office, Chandigarh.

Handing over a cheque to the wrestler on the behalf of the SAD president, the SAD senior Vice president and spokesman, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that the SAD had always encouraged and honored the sportspersons for making the state and country proud with their amazing performances at National and international contests. “Sandhu has represented our country on many occasions at the Commonwealth Games as well as the Asian championships.

He had brought glory to the nation by winning two gold medals consecutively in the Greco-Roman 80kg category at the Commonwealth Games in 2016 & 2017, besides winning 3 bronze medals in the Greco-Roman 82kg category at Asian championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018” he added. Praising him as a great wrestler and good human being, the SAD leader said that this time Harpreet Sandhu would represent India in the Greco-Roman 87kg category at the 2018 Asian Games scheduled to be held from 18 August to 02 September 2018 at Jakarta and Palembang cities of Indonesia.

“We are hopeful that he would bring more laurels to the nation by clinching top slot at the Asian Games,” said Dr. Cheema. Hailing from the Karail village of Sangrur district, Wrestler Harpreet Sandhu started training at Baba Farid Kushti Akhara Faridkot, which is famous for producing many international wrestlers like Navjot Kaur and Olympian Gurvinder. The youth SAD leader of Faridkot S. Parambans Singh Bunty Romana was also present on the occasion.
