Pakistan Senate Passes Resolution Rejecting India’s Allegations over Pahalgam Attack, Indus-treaty
Pakistan- "a familiar pattern of exploiting the issue of terrorism for narrow political goals.”
Pakistan Senate Passes Resolution Rejecting India’s Allegations over Pahalgam Attack, Indus Water Treaty:
Pakistan’s Senate on Friday passed a resolution rejecting "India’s attempt to link Pakistan to the deadly attack in India-held Kashmir earlier this week."
The move comes after the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 and injured 17 in an open firing by terrorists in Baisaran. This attack was followed by India’s various diplomatic measures against Pakistan, sensing its involvement in the execution of the terror attack.
The resolution, moved by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, warned that Pakistan remains fully capable and prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any aggression, including water terrorism or military provocation “as clearly demonstrated by its robust and valiant response to India's reckless actions in February 2019; and any misadventure by India will be met with a firm, swift and decisive response.”
The resolution shared on the official X handle of Pakistan’s House of the Federation (Upper House) read, "Condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations."
Regarding India’s suspicions of cross-border terrorism linkages to Tuesday’s attack, the resolution stated, “The Senate of Pakistan rejects all frivolous and baseless attempts to link Pakistan with the Pahalgam Attack of the 22nd April 2025 in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.”
The resolution also criticized Indian politics, reading, “The Senate of Pakistan condemns the orchestrated and mala fide campaign by the Indian government to malign Pakistan, which follows a familiar pattern of exploiting the issue of terrorism for narrow political goals.”
Regarding India’s move to put the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, the resolution called it “unlawful and unilateral,” condemning it as a “blatant violation of the Treaty which clearly amounts to an act of war.”
The resolution emphasized that “the people of Pakistan remain committed to peace, but will never allow anyone to transgress the country’s sovereignty, security, and interests.” It also demanded that India "should be held accountable for its involvement in various acts of terrorism and targeted assassinations on the soil of other countries, including Pakistan."
The resolution ended by reaffirming "Pakistan's unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people's just struggle for the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination."
This is said despite the streets of Jammu and Kashmir being flooded with protests from citizens in both cities and villages, holding Indian flags and placards reading 'Not in my name.'
In the aftermath of the attack, the people of Kashmir have clearly demonstrated that they are not indifferent as the resolution suggests, but are concerned and worried about how terrorism could affect tourism and directly impact their livelihood due to the terror attack.
