Meteorological Department Issues Update on Weather Trends

Punjab Weather Update

Punjab Weather Update News: In a notable weather development, Punjab braces for a shift in its climate as the Meteorological Department reports a forthcoming drop in temperatures and the likelihood of rainfall in multiple districts. The Met Department weather report for today said that as compared to yesterday, today there is a rise of 0.4°C in average minimum temperature. The lowest minimum temperature in the state is 9°C recorded at Gurdaspur district.

The Expected change comes on the heels of a rising minimum temperature and a consecutive drop in night temperatures over the past few days. The Chandigarh Center of the Meteorological Department has revealed that a new Western Disturbance is set to influence Punjab's weather conditions. The director of the center states that the impact of this disturbance may result in light to moderate rain on November 27, potentially leading to a two-degree drop in day and night temperatures. Additionally, an escalation in fog density is expected post-rainfall.

Experts predict a positive side effect of the anticipated rain, asserting that the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in Punjab are likely to witness improvement. The rain is expected to clear the air of dust particles, providing respite from the persistently poor air quality despite a decrease in stubble burning incidents.

Stubborn Stubble Burning and Lingering Pollution

While there has been a notable decrease in stubble burning cases, with 512 reported on Wednesday and a subsequent 50% reduction on Thursday, the air quality in several cities remains poor. Bathinda recorded an AQI of 350, whereas Patiala, Ludhiana, Khanna, and Jalandhar hovered in the poor category. Amritsar and Mandi Gobindgarh, however, reported AQI levels in the medium category.
