Excise Dept Takes Major Action Against Liquor Contractors: 23 Shops Shut, 4 Licenses Suspended

Excise Dept Takes Major Action Against Liquor Contractors: 23 Shops Shut, 4 Licenses Suspended: The Jalandhar Excise Department has taken strict action against beer and liquor contractors for violating rules. The department has ordered the sealing of liquor shops in Jalandhar and Haryana for 2 and 3 days, respectively, according to sources.

Under this order, 23 shops of the Rama Mandi group will remain closed on September 24 and 25. Meanwhile, 26 shops of the Haryana group will remain shut from September 24 to 26. In addition, the licenses of four bars in the Amritsar area, under the Jalandhar zone, have been suspended for one month.

According to officials, the Rama Mandi group sold 27 cases of liquor in Amritsar on September 16, which was against the rules.

The Haryana group sold 81 cases of liquor in Pathankot on September 10. As a result, orders were issued to seal the liquor shops of both groups for 2 and 3 days, respectively.

A day earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Excise had imposed a fine of 5 lakh rupees on the Sehgal group in a liquor smuggling case, and all of its shops were shut for one day.
