Punjab Takes the Lead: First-in-India ‘Easy Registry’ System Launched to Revolutionize Property Registration

Chandigarh, July 28: In yet another pioneering move that underlines Punjab’s leadership in administrative reforms, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government has become the first in India to launch a seamless, citizen-centric property registration system, aptly named ‘Easy Registry’. This first-of-its-kind initiative was officially unveiled by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alongside AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, marking a historic shift towards transparent, accessible, and hassle-free land registration.

By taking this bold and innovative step ahead of any other state, Punjab has once again emerged as a trailblazer in public governance, setting an example for the rest of the country to follow.

Punjab Shows the Way

This transformative platform ensures that citizens no longer need to visit local sub-registrar offices or rely on intermediaries for property registration. Instead, they can now complete the process online or from any sub-registrar office within their district. For senior citizens, working professionals, and residents in rural areas, the new system offers a home-visit service through Seva Sahayaks, accessible via the helpline 1076 — a feature unparalleled in any other state.

The Chief Minister emphasized that this is not just a digital upgrade, but a fundamental rethinking of how governance should work — efficient, transparent, and people-first.

Paperwork on WhatsApp, Payments Online

Under the new system, document submission, verification, payment, and appointment scheduling can all be tracked and managed via WhatsApp, providing real-time updates to users. Citizens can choose a convenient time slot for registration and receive advance digital verification within 48 hours, eliminating long queues and repeat visits.

Most notably, the entire payment process — including stamp duty and registration fees — is now online, ending the need for demand drafts and reducing the risk of cash-related corruption.

End of Agent Culture, Rise of Self-Reliance

Declaring an end to “agent culture,” the Punjab Government has ensured that no middlemen are needed in the new system. Citizens can now use the ‘Draft My Deed’ tool to prepare their own registry documents or seek low-cost assistance through official Seva Kendras or government-certified Seva Sahayaks.

This empowers residents, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, to save money, avoid exploitation, and engage directly with the system, marking a major shift toward administrative self-reliance.

First Implemented in Mohali, Statewide Rollout Begins

The initiative, already live in Mohali, will be trialed in every district from July 15 to August 1. From August 1 onwards, the system will be fully operational across the entire state, allowing all citizens of Punjab to benefit from this model.

Chief Minister Mann highlighted that the new platform will offer citizens the freedom to register property from any sub-registrar office in their district, removing location-based constraints and increasing convenience.

Error Alerts and Grievance Redressal in Real-Time

In case of any document errors or objections raised by a Sub-Registrar or Tehsildar, the system will instantly notify the citizen via mobile alerts, with the Deputy Commissioner looped in for quick redressal — another example of how Punjab’s reform is built around accountability and speed.

A dedicated WhatsApp number has also been launched for lodging complaints related to corruption or delays, reinforcing the government’s zero-tolerance stance on bribery.

A Model for the Nation

By becoming the first state in India to launch such a comprehensive and inclusive property registration platform, the Punjab Government has reaffirmed its commitment to governance reform, citizen empowerment, and digital transparency.

While other states may follow suit in the future, it was Punjab that took the first step — proving once again that when it comes to people-first governance, Punjab leads, and others follow.
