CHANDIGARH: As a precautionary measure in the wake of widespread heavy rains and flooding across several districts of Punjab, the state government has taken a decisive step to ensure the safety of students. All schools throughout the state have been directed to be closed until August 26. The announcement of these extended holidays was made by Harjot Singh Bains, the Education Minister of Punjab.

Elaborating on the decision, Harjot Bains stated, "In accordance with the guidance of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann , and considering the devastating floods triggered by the relentless downpours affecting numerous districts in Punjab, as well as Himachal Pradesh, the Punjab Government has promptly declared the closure of all government, aided, recognized, and private schools across the state. This precautionary measure is enacted with immediate effect."

The break, which commences from August 23, 2023, and continues through August 26, 2023 (Saturday), aims to prioritize the safety and well-being of students and educators alike. The decision takes into account the potential hazards associated with the ongoing heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding that have afflicted several regions, necessitating the suspension of educational activities.
