CHANDIGARH: Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Chandigarh tomorrow, June 24. With utmost priority given to safety and security, the local police department has issued a traffic advisory for the occasion. Today, on June 23, an exercise is being conducted to ensure necessary arrangements. As a result, certain roads in the city have been diverted or restricted for traffic. Areas affected include the black body light point, Sector 31/32-46/47 Chowk, Sector 32/33-45/46 Chowk, and Sector 33/34-44/45 Chowk on Shanti Marg.

Additionally, traffic diversions and restrictions will be in place near the exhibition grounds located in Sector-34, where a meeting with the Defense Minister will take place. Commuters can expect traffic disruptions from New Labor Chowk (Sector 33/34-20/21 Chowk) to Burail Chowk (Sector 33/34-44/45 Chowk) on Sarovar Marg, as well as from Sector 33/34 Light Point to Gurdwara Sahib. Some internal roads within Sector 34 will also be affected.

The police department has urged the general public to avoid these roads between 3 pm and 4:30 pm on June 23, and between 5 pm and 8 pm on June 24. Alternative routes should be utilized during these times. Visitors heading to the exhibition grounds from Sector-34 and 35 light points have been advised to park their vehicles in the unpaved parking lot near the Central Library of Sector-34 or in front of the Gurdwara Sahib.

Furthermore, as a security measure, a ban on drones has been imposed in Chandigarh from June 23 to June 25 due to concerns about potential drone attacks by miscreants and terrorists. The District Magistrate of Chandigarh, Vinay Pratap Singh, has issued the order, declaring Chandigarh a no-flying zone. However, law enforcement agencies are exempt from this restriction, and any violation will be strictly dealt with.

These precautions and arrangements aim to ensure the smooth conduct of the Defense Minister's visit while safeguarding public safety and maintaining security in the region.
