AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee claimed that the historical Gurdwara belonging to the first Patshah Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji has been converted into a Buddhist shrine at Mechuka in Arunachal Pradesh. Gurdwara Guru Nanak Taposthan is located at Mechuka in memory of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, which has recently been converted into a Buddhist shrine.
On April 8, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, has shared some pictures of his visit to Mechuka on social media, from which it is clear that this Sikh shrine has now been converted into a Buddhist shrine. Shiromani Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami termed this move as an attack on Sikhs and said that converting any religious place to a center of another religion is a direct violation of Article 25 of the Constitution.
He said that Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji had made a religious journey to different countries for the welfare of humanity, which is known as Udasi in Sikh history. Accordingly, there is a reference to Guru Sahib's visit to Mechuka as well. Shiromani Committee President said that Gurdwara Guru Nanak Taposthan was established at Mechuka in memory of Guru Sahib.
He said that historian Colonel Dalwinder Singh Grewal had made an important contribution to the development of Gurdwara Sahib. Grewal had offered this Gurdwara Sahib to Sangat in March 1987 with the support of the Indian Army. But it is a matter of sadness that now a desperate attempt has been made to destroy this memorial of the first king. He said that it is unfortunate that the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh is visiting this historical shrine of Sikhs and showing it as a Buddhist shrine. This move is going to hurt Sikh sentiments, which will be fiercely opposed at all levels.

He said that many cases related to Sikh shrines located in different places in the country are already pending and now another case has come to the fore. This is another example of discrimination against Sikhs, which the Indian government should consider and move towards a solution. He said that in this regard, the Shiromani Committee will write a letter to the President and the representatives of the Government of India and ask for action.
