Punjab Weather: Red Alert Issued in Patiala, Hailstorms predicted

Patiala Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, has placed Patiala district in Punjab under a red alert in its nowcast, valid till 2:20 pm today.

The district is experiencing moderate rainfall, with precipitation ranging between 5–15 mm per hour. Moderate thunderstorms accompanied by maximum surface wind speeds of 41–61 kmph are also expected. The IMD has further warned of thunderstorms with hail in the district.

In the general forecast for the day, Patiala has been placed under an orange alert, with warnings of thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls. Hailstorms and strong surface winds are also expected.

Several areas in Punjab have recorded rainfall since last night, leading to weather-related incidents such as fallen trees and strong winds, including in Mohali, where reports of tree falls have emerged in some localities. The prevailing weather conditions have also caused extreme cold in the state.
