Punjab Airhostess Nisha Soni Murder Case Latest News Today: In a tragic incident, the body of Nisha, a 22-year-old air hostess trainee from Jogindernagar, Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, was recovered from the Bhakra Canal near Patiala, Punjab. A 33-year-old police officer, Yuvraj, posted in Mohali, has been detained on charges of her murder.
Nisha's Journey: From Himachal to Chandigarh
Nisha, originally hailing from Seru village in Jogindernagar, had been living in Chandigarh for three years to pursue her dream of becoming an airhostess. She returned to her hometown last week but left for Chandigarh on January 20, 2025.
CCTV footage revealed that Nisha was last seen leaving her paying guest accommodation in Sector 34, Chandigarh, with Yuvraj on the evening of January 20. Her phone was switched off shortly afterward, and she could not be reached.
The next day, on January 21, her partially unclothed body was found in the Bhakra Canal along the Patiala-Sangrur route. Local divers from the Bhole Shankar Divers Club retrieved her remains. Her family identified the body at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala on January 22, after which it was handed over to them.
Suspect in Custody: Evidence Points to Murder
Preliminary investigations revealed that Nisha was in a relationship with Yuvraj, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib. Surveillance footage supported this, showing her with him on the night of her disappearance. Police suspect that Yuvraj allegedly pushed Nisha into the canal near Pathredi village in Ropar district.
The Nangal police informed the Jogindernagar police about her death, prompting her family to file a missing person report after she failed to respond to their calls. Yuvraj is now in custody and has been charged with murder. Investigators are probing the motive and circumstances surrounding Nisha’s tragic death.
Community Shocked by the Loss of a Bright Life
Nisha, described as ambitious and hardworking, was on the verge of completing her air hostess training. Her untimely death has left the community in Jogindernagar and Himachal Pradesh grieving, as well as her friends and acquaintances in Chandigarh.
The incident has raised questions about safety and trust, with locals demanding justice for Nisha. As investigations continue, the authorities are under pressure to ensure accountability and transparency in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
