Who is Inderjit Singh Sidhu?
An 88-year-old retired IPS officer, Inderjit Singh Sidhu, begins his morning at 6 AM. While most of the elders get ready to step out for a walk or jog, Inderjit Singh Sidhu takes a rehri around Sector 49 and collects litter to ensure that the area remains clean. He does it every day, without fail.
Sidhu retired from the Punjab Police in 1996 as DIG. He now lives in the IAS-IPS Officers’ Cooperative Society in Sector 49. He was disgusted by the garbage littered day in and day out. He even complained to the authorities multiple times, but no action was taken by them.
This is why he decided to take it upon himself. "There’s no shame in doing such work. Cleanliness is next to godliness."
He said if people decide to keep the city clean, Chandigarh would achieve that coveted top spot.
