Sacrilege Case: Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Ram Rahim Seeks CBI Investigation
High Court has ordered Dera Chief to file a Reply
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab-Haryana High Court has questioned the plea of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in connection with the Sacrilege case. Ram Rahim had demanded that the investigation of the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib case should be conducted by the CBI instead of the Punjab Police. After a two-hour hearing on Friday, the High Court has ordered Dera Chief to file a reply regarding the deficiencies in the statement of the complainant.
Dera Chief had said in a petition seeking a CBI probe that he was named in the case five years after the FIR. Due to political reasons, he is being implicated in this matter and in such a situation, the SIT of the government cannot investigate the matter impartially. Opposing the petition, the Punjab government said that the CBI investigation was not going in the right direction and therefore the investigation was handed over to the SIT by filing a petition in the High Court.
After hearing the side of the government and the petitioner, the High Court raised questions on the plea of Dera Chief and said that first the petitioner has to be told what is wrong in the investigation of the case. The court will take a further decision in this matter only after the petitioner answers all the questions.
