CHANDIGARH: Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, located in Sector-26, Chandigarh, came alive with fervor as it celebrated Khadi Mahotsav and Dan Utsav, aligning with the aspirations of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan (Self-Reliant India Campaign). The event commenced with a National Service Scheme (NSS) orientation session under the guidance of Principal Dr. Navjot Kaur, who appointed Rohit Kumar, an esteemed NSS Resource Person, to lead the proceedings. The event welcomed the Swarmani Youth Welfare Association, who received the CD.

Rohit Kumar, NSS Resource Person, conveyed an inspiring message to the newly inducted NSS volunteers, urging them to actively engage in promoting social welfare and community service. His address focused on the pivotal role that khadi plays in empowering local weavers and artisans. He highlighted khadi's contribution to rural employment, self-reliance, and the promotion of sustainable livelihoods.

In line with the theme of 'Vocal for Local,' Khadi Ashram Secretary, Shri Sanjay Kumar Sharma, CHD, added depth to the event by setting up a khadi stall, showcasing a diverse array of khadi products. The stall served as a practical means to instill pride in local products and enhance youth awareness about the cultural and economic significance of khadi.

The Celebration also featured a spirited quiz competition and an oath-taking ceremony. These activities aimed to familiarize students with the rich heritage of khadi and its multifaceted benefits, encompassing economic growth, environmental sustainability, and women's empowerment.

In addition to the educational and celebratory aspects, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College organized a donation drive from October 18 to 20, 2023. This initiative fostered the spirit of giving and exemplified the college's dedication to 'Seva' or selfless service. Faculty and students actively participated by generously contributing clothes, utensils, toys, stationery, pre-primary reading books, and dry ration.

Notably, Principal Dr. Navjot Kaur, during her address, emphasized that the celebration of Khadi Mahotsav and Dan Utsav resonates with the goal of sustainable and eco-friendly production, aligning seamlessly with the vision of a self-reliant India. She commended the efforts of the NSS unit, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, and the Institute Innovation Council of the college for organizing the event and encouraging young minds to embrace 'Vocal for Local' and promote social welfare.
