BJP, AAP Standoff in Punjab: BJP Alleges AAP Detained Leaders, Blocked Campaigning, Latest News: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab has accused the Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of hindering its outreach programs, aimed at spreading awareness about the Central Government’s schemes and helping people register for various schemes.
BJP leaders have alleged that the state government is stopping their door-to-door campaign, which the BJP has been holding under the “BJP De Sevadar Aa Gaye Tuhade Dwar”, aimed at spreading awareness about the centre’s welfare schemes, and encouraging them to register for the benefits of schemes such as Ayushman Bharat card, PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and the e-Shram portal.
The camps were scheduled to go on till the end of this month. However, the BJP has claimed that some of its leaders, including former MP Sushil Kumar Rinku and former MLA KD Bhandari, were detained while carrying out one such camp in Punjab’s Jalandhar.
MoS Ravneet Singh Bittu has called the alleged action of the Punjab government an ‘attack on democracy.’
“The AAP government has deliberately stalled central schemes for a long time. When we tried to take these benefits directly to the people, they started detaining our workers. This is an attack on democracy, and we will launch a public movement against such actions,’ MoS Ravneet Singh Bittu said in a statement.
However, AAP has raised data and governance concerns.
A delegation of the BJP on Thursday met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in Chandigarh.
BJP leader Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi speaking to ANI on the matter, said, “Certified camps had been set up with proper licences, but our leaders were put under house arrest and the camps were dismantled. We went to complain about this, and he (Governor Gulab Chand Kataria) assured us that action will be taken, he will speak to the government.”
