White Blanket of Fog Envelops Punjab and Haryana, Weather Dept Issues Alert

Punjab Weather Update

Punjab Weather Update: In a stark weather update, Punjab and Haryana find themselves in the clutches of an intensifying cold wave, with nine cities reporting temperatures lower than the renowned cold haven of Shimla. The Meteorological Department has sounded an alert, cautioning residents about the onset of dense fog in many districts of both states.

The cold surge is attributed to the prevailing north-westerly winds, intensifying the drop in both maximum and minimum temperatures. These winds, cascading from the mountains, have ushered in a chill that persists day and night.

Among the affected districts, Faridkot in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of four degrees Celsius, highlighting the severity of the cold spell. Other cities such as Amritsar, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, and Ropar also reported minimum mercury levels below 5 degrees Celsius, further underscoring the widespread impact.

The Meteorological Department's forecast predicts that, over the next four days, 18 districts in Punjab will witness not only bone-chilling temperatures but also dense fog. Additionally, a likelihood of light to moderate rain in various districts on December 23 is expected, further exacerbating the cold conditions in the region.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions as the cold wave tightens its grip on the northern states, with authorities urging vigilance on the road due to reduced visibility caused by the dense fog.
