Gold Worth Rs 68.67 Lakh Seized: Passenger from Dubai Caught Smuggling at Amritsar Airport
Vigilant Customs Officials Make Significant Gold Discovery
AMRITSAR: In a commendable display of vigilance, Customs officials at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar successfully intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai and seized gold worth Rs 68.67 lakh. The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs Commissionerate made the discovery during a routine inspection on Tuesday.
Upon the SpiceJet flight SG56's arrival from Dubai, officials immediately flagged a passenger for suspicion and initiated a thorough search of the individual's luggage. However, the initial search yielded no results. Unwavering in their efforts, the Air Intelligence Unit decided to further inspect the passenger's turban, where they made a significant discovery.
Hidden within the folds of the turban were two concealed packets, one weighing 813 grams and the other 819 grams. Upon examination, it was revealed that the passenger had illicitly transported gold in liquid form from Dubai, surreptitiously concealed within the folds of his turban.
Notably, The value of the seized gold is estimated at Rs 68.67 lakh. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the full extent of the smuggling operation and identify any potential accomplices involved.
