IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 10 Punjab Districts; Monsoon Likely to Reach State Within 2 Days

Monsoon Punjab 2025 latest updates: Chandigarh, June 20 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, has issued a Yellow Alert for ten districts of Punjab for June 19, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and strong surface winds, as per its latest update.

The districts under the Yellow Alert include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar, and Patiala.

For June 21, the State Meteorological Department has extended Yellow Alerts to most districts across Punjab. However, six western districts — Firozpur, Moga, Faridkot, Fazilka, Muktsar, and Bathinda — are not under any weather warning.

According to IMD Chandigarh, the average minimum temperature in Punjab rose by 1.1°C on June 20 compared to the previous day. Despite this increase, the temperature remains 3°C above normal across the state. The lowest minimum temperature, at 26°C, was recorded at Bhakra_Dam_IMDNAGAL (AWS).

In the last 24 hours, Chandigarh City received the highest rainfall in the state, measuring 9.7 mm, as recorded at 8:30 AM today.

On June 19, Pathankot recorded the highest maximum temperature in Punjab at 40°C. Compared to June 18, there was a 0.6°C rise in the average maximum temperature on June 19, bringing it close to the normal range, according to IMD.

Further Advancement of Southwest Monsoon

  • Some parts of West Uttar Pradesh
  • Most parts of Uttarakhand
  • Many parts of Himachal Pradesh
  • Some parts of Ladakh

Conditions are also becoming favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi during the next two days.
