Chandigarh emerged as the warmest city in North India on Tuesday, recording a maximum temperature of 25.1 degree celsius.
According to the report, this temperature is a staggering 6.9 degrees above the seasonal normal.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned that this warm spell is temporary.
An intense Western Disturbance is expected to impact the region starting the night of January 21, bringing a sharp change in conditions.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the region, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and lightning between January 22 and 24. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are also expected.
Despite the unusually high day temperatures, the nights remain chilly, with the minimum temperature settling at 6 degrees Celsius, which is 1.4 degrees below normal.
While the current sunshine has provided some relief from the winter chill, weather officials state that the upcoming storm will likely lead to a drop in mercury across Punjab and Haryana.
