Punjab Weather Update: Dense Fog Alert Issued as Minimum Temperatures Plummet
Meteorological Department Forecasts Chilling Weather Till December 21
Punjab Weather Update: Punjab is currently under the influence of a chilling cold wave accompanied by dense fog, marking a significant drop in minimum temperatures. The Meteorological Department issued an alert, predicting the continuation of the cold wave until December 21, with a potential further drop of two to three degrees Celsius.
For the first time this season, Amritsar experienced temperatures colder than Shimla, recording a minimum of 3.6 degrees Celsius. Other regions reported varying minimum temperatures, including Faridkot at 4.4, Gurdaspur at 4.6, Ropar at 5.5, Bathinda at 5.8, Ludhiana at 9.8, Patiala at 7.6, and Chandigarh at 7.2 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department also warns of an increase in dense fog during this period, with visibility likely to drop below fifty percent. Dr. Pavneet Kaur Kingra, an expert from the Department of Meteorology at the Punjab Agricultural University, attributes the changing weather patterns to pollution and global warming. Despite a recent maximum temperature of 20.8 degrees Celsius, slightly above the normal 19.9 degrees Celsius, a significant temperature drop is anticipated in the coming days.
In response to the forecast, the Meteorological Department has issued a severe fog alert for December 20 and 21, urging residents to exercise caution and be prepared for challenging visibility conditions.
