FEROZEPUR: As the torrential waters of the Sutlej and Beas rivers continue to impact numerous villages across Ferozepur and Fazilka districts, school administrations have extended holidays until August 26. The devastating floodwaters have prompted the evacuation of multiple villages, forcing the Ferozepur district administration to suspend school activities for safety reasons. The decision comes in the wake of impassable roads and flooded campuses, rendering it impossible for students to commute safely to schools.

In an official directive issued by the district administration, schools experiencing flooding or road inaccessibility have been granted the liberty to remain closed from August 19 to August 26. The move aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students, acknowledging the dire circumstances that the floodwaters have presented.

District Magistrate Rajesh Dhiman has additionally released a list of the affected schools, offering transparency and clarity to students, parents, and educational staff alike. The flood situation has posed immense challenges, particularly in the evacuation of vulnerable populations like children, women, and the elderly from flood-hit border villages. However, in the face of adversity, the combined efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), district administration, and Border Security Force (BSF) have emerged as a beacon of hope for these communities.

Demonstrating unwavering dedication, these heroes have tirelessly assisted in the safe evacuation of residents. In the past 24 hours, BSF jawans accomplished the evacuation of 426 individuals from border villages, including Nihala Lavera, Ruknewala, Taligram, and Dhiragandhu.
