This comes even as temperatures in several districts have crossed 41 degrees Celsius, prompting public anxiety over the health and safety of schoolchildren.
Over the past week, calls had grown for the Education Department to consider an early break from physical classes as children continued to brave harsh daytime heat during school commutes. Traditionally, schools in Punjab go on summer break in the third week of May, lasting until July 1.
However, government insiders have now stated that an early closure is not on the table, as recent weather fluctuations have brought a slight dip in temperatures in some parts of the state.
“The situation is being monitored, but as of now, there is no proposal under consideration for early summer vacations,” said a source familiar with internal discussions in the Education Department.
