Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann laid the foundation stone of a Rs 15 crore government degree college at Bikraur village in the Ajnala border area of Amritsar district.

The co-educational college will be constructed on 15 acres of land and is aimed at providing higher education facilities to students from the border belt. The institution is expected to benefit youth from around 50 nearby villages, with an estimated enrolment of over 2,000 students in the coming years.

According to officials, the college will offer undergraduate courses in Arts, Science and Commerce, along with programmes in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Skills.

The college will be named after Baba Ghamchuk Ji. The land for the project has been donated by the Bikraur village panchayat.

The Chief Minister said the project would help students from the border region pursue higher education closer to their homes.
