Governing Council Calls for Urgent Restoration of Flood-Affected Kartarpur Corridor

The Kartarpur Gurdwara Governing Council has decided to fast-track the restoration of the Sikh shrine that was damaged by floods last year. The eighth meeting of the council was held on Wednesday at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, chaired by Secretary of Religious Affairs Sajid Chauhan.

According to an official statement, the council reviewed repair and rehabilitation work required after flooding that officials attributed to Indian water aggression, which affected parts of the corridor project.

An official statement said, “It was decided that damaged portions of the flood-affected corridor would be restored on an urgent basis.” To ensure timely completion, the council resolved to reconvene within two weeks to assess progress and monitor ongoing works.

Chauhan highlighted that the Kartarpur Corridor stands as a symbol of humanitarian values and interfaith harmony. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the best facilities for visiting Sikh yatrees and devotees.

Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, who attended the meeting as Pardhan of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, said that both the federal and Punjab governments were working to offer warm hospitality and seamless services to pilgrims.

Representatives from multiple ministries, including Interior, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Defence, Law and Justice, and Information and Broadcasting, and agencies like the Frontier Works Organisation and Punjab Home Department, participated in the meeting.

Kartarpur Sahib, situated in Pakistan’s Narowal district along the Ravi River, lies about four kilometres from Dera Baba Nanak in India. It is the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who spent the last 18 years of his life at Kartarpur.
