Woman Police Officer Sentenced to 3 Years in Cheque Bounce Case, Granted Bail on Surety Bond
Court Finds Kamaljit Kaur Guilty in Rs 12.50 Lakh Loan Default, Awards 3-Year Sentence
MOGA: In a recent legal development, a woman police officer was handed a three-year sentence in a Chequebounce case. Additionally, the accused has been granted bail on a surety bond. Advocate Siddharth Majithia shared details of the case, revealing that the plaintiff, Avtar Singh, had a prior acquaintance with the police officer, Kamaljit Kaur, a resident of Kacha Dosanjh Road.
The Sequence of events traces back to 2016 when Kamaljit borrowed Rs 12.50 lakh from Avtar Singh to facilitate her brother's journey abroad. However, she failed to fulfill the repayment of the loan. In 2018, Kamaljit issued two Cheques amounting to Rs 6 lakh and Rs 6.50 lakh to Avtar Singh to settle the debt.
When these Cheques were deposited in the bank, both transactions resulted in bounced checks. Subsequently, Avtar Singh filed a petition in July 2018 to address the matter legally. After a thorough legal process spanning over five and a half years, the court rendered a guilty verdict against Kamaljit Kaur and sentenced her to three years of imprisonment. The Granting of bail on a surety bond offers a respite to the accused while ensuring compliance with legal procedures.
