Punjab to Face Major Transport Disruption as PRTC-PUNBUS Employees Announce 3-Day Strike

Punjab PRTC PUNBUS Strike Latest News Today: Commuters in Punjab are set to face major transportation hurdles as employees of PRTC and PUNBUS have announced a complete shutdown of government bus services for three consecutive days, July 9, 10, and 11. The protest, aimed at pressing long-pending demands, is expected to paralyze public transport across the state.

The primary demand driving the agitation is the regularization of contractual employees. Workers allege that despite Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s assurance a month ago to resolve the issue swiftly, no progress has been made. Instead, they claim, the state transport department is moving toward expanding the contractual hiring model — a move that could jeopardize the future of thousands of temporary staff.

Union leaders argue that transitioning to a full contract-based system will lead to mass terminations and increased job insecurity. “We are not just demanding permanent jobs; we are fighting for our survival,” a protester said.

During the three-day strike, government-run PRTC and PUNBUS buses will stay off the roads, significantly impacting daily commuters, students, and intercity travelers. With no alternate arrangements announced yet, the public is expected to bear the brunt of the standoff between employees and the state.
