Ludhiana West Assembly By-Election to Be Held on June 19 Following AAP MLA's Death
Ludhiana West Assembly By-Election latest news: The Ludhiana West Assembly by-election, necessitated by the untimely death of sitting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Gogi, is set to take place on June 19. Campaigning for the election concluded on Tuesday.
Late AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi died of a gunshot injury at his residence on January 14. Following his death, the Election Commission announced the by-election on May 25.
In preparation for the by-poll, the Punjab Police have set up 60 checkpoints and deployed over 1,000 personnel across the region to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the election, PTC News reported.
A total of 235 high-resolution CCTV cameras have been installed at 194 polling booths, including 41 external surveillance points, to enhance security and monitoring.
From AAP, industrialist and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora is contesting the election. The Congress has fielded former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has named Paropkar Singh Ghumman as its candidate.
All major parties gave a final push to woo voters in different ways. AAP and Congress held large roadshows, the BJP organized a press conference, while the Shiromani Akali Dal conducted door-to-door campaigning.
