Police Nabs one for Betting on IPL

LUDHIANA: Punjab Police has arrested a person for betting on Indian Premiere League (IPL) and International Cricket Matches from Ludhiana district. In this regard, Police officer Mandeep Singh Sidhu held a press conference and said that the Ludhiana police has launched a campaign against those who bet on sports and cricket matches. In connection with this operation, a person has been arrested along with 12 mobiles, a mic and a suit case from the area of Haibowal Police Station. The accused has been identified as Sourav Mahindru, a resident of Haibowal Kalan.

The local police have arrested him on the charge of betting on the ongoing matches of the Indian Premier League. Police said that the accused bets on IPL and other international matches and cheats people after luring them to place bets on the matches.

Sub-Inspector Amarjit Singh said that a case has been registered against the accused under section 420 (cheating) and 13A, 3, 67 of the Gambling Act at Haibowal police station. He said that raids are being conducted to arrest his associates.
