Manhunt Launched After Murder Undertrial Escapes Police Custody at Mohali Court, latest news:

A man charged with murder and currently facing trial, identified as Rintu, escaped from police custody on Thursday after slipping away from a Chandigarh Police constable who had escorted him from Burail Jail to a court in Mohali, Hindustan Times reported.

According to police, Constable Daljit Singh, posted on general duty with Chandigarh Police, was assigned the task of escorting Rintu to the Mohali court in a police bus.

In his statement to the police, Constable Singh said that another undertrial was also present in the same bus. After dropping Singh and Rintu at the Mohali court, the bus driver proceeded to the Kharar court to present the second undertrial.

After producing Rintu in court, Constable Singh was waiting outside with him for the bus to return. It was during this time that Rintu managed to escape by pushing the constable aside and fleeing towards a seasonal rivulet near the Lakhnaur crossing, the report said.

The constable claimed that he searched for the escapee for a long time. When he couldn’t locate him, he informed the local PCR and gave his statement at Sohana Police Station. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered based on his statement, and a manhunt has been launched to trace the escapee.

Rintu is an undertrial in a murder case registered at Zirakpur.
